Frank Lloyd Wright’s connection to Arizona, the location of his personal winter home Taliesin West, runs deep, with his architectural influence seen all over the Valley. Here, PhD student David R. Richardson gives a brief overview of several of Wright’s most notable projects in the Grand Canyon state. A cartoon representation is featured in South Park as the base of a Chinese gang in the episode "Wing", satirizing the popular association of the Ennis House with criminal and/or Asian characters in films. Ennis House is also represented in cartoon series "The Venture Bros." as super villain, The Monarch's house in season 4.

The Ennis House is forever protected by a detailed conservation easement, which states that house owners must allow public viewing at least 12 times per year. This makes it all the more exciting to watch a television show that shines new light on his Los Angeles architecture, designed during one of the darkest periods of Wright’s life. However, it was not finalized by Wright but by his son Lloyd, also an architect. He had previously owned and restored the widely publicized John Lautner designed Elrod House in Palm Springs and was currently living in the beautifully restored Beverly Hills mansion built for silent film star Harold Lloyd.

"Shortly after we moved into the house, I came home from school one day and saw Edmund Teske standing outside on the sidewalk looking at the house," she said, referring to the photographer known for his work with Wright. "I went inside and told my mother about Teske's presence. She told me to go outside and invite him in, which I did. He was absolutely thrilled." But although the Ennis house was grand in scale and historic in sweep, it remained "highly livable," said Janet Tani, whose father, Augustus O. Brown, owned the property from 1968 to 1980. While driving through the Los Angeles area, a look up into the hillside above Griffith Park and you’ll be feasting your eyes with beauty and intrigue of monumental proportion. Lloyd Wright (son of the famous Frank) has an impressive construction portfolio that includes the Wayfarers Chapel in Palos Verdes, the John Sowden House, and the original bandshell for the Hollywood Bowl.
In television, it might be remembered as "the mansion" occupied by Angel, Spike, and Drusilla in the "Buffy the Vampire Slayer " series. David Lynch also used the interiors of Ennis House for a few segments of the show "Twin Peaks" for the soap opera show-within-a-show episode called "Invitation to Love." The Bates Home in Psycho isn’t actually a real home, but rather a two-walled exterior facade used for the film. In August 2005, the house was returned to its original name, and the Trust for Preservation of Cultural Heritage was renamed the Ennis House Foundation.
The exterior and interior of the house have been used in multiple film and TV productions. In 1959 the exterior was featured in House on Haunted Hill starring Vincent Price. The 1975 production of Day of the Locust also used the location as a private residence. The house became legendary as the inspiration for the apartment of Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford) in Ridley Scott’s 1982 film Blade Runner. The exterior was also featured in the TV series Buffy the Vampire Slayer as the home of Angelus, Spike, and Drusilla.

The house, Jacobs said, doesn't fit neatly into Wright's oeuvre or any other architectural timeline. Karrie Jacobs, an architecture columnist and the founding editor of Dwell magazine, remembered visiting the Ennis house in 2005, sitting at the dining table and watching hawks circle over L.A. She noted how one side of the house seems to hover above a growing metropolis, while the other side points toward Griffith Park's undeveloped hills and land "that looks like it must have looked 500 years ago," she said. "By walking a few feet, one can be in a completely different environment."

Irrelevant,” S Jaylen Key, has the skill set to be a core special teams player. Boosted the secondary on Day 2 with S Tyler Nubin (47) and CB Andru Phillips (70). Got OL Layden Robinson and WR Javon Baker in the fourth and CB Marcellas Dial and strong-armed QB Joe Milton in the sixth.
Charles Ennis passed away in 1928, only a few years after the house was completed. Built in 1924 and occupying a majestic Los Feliz hilltop with staggering views from downtown Los Angeles to the Pacific Ocean, this remarkable property has undergone years of thoughtful restoration at a cost of nearly $17 million. Approximately 27,000 blocks were used in the construction, which were cast by hand, on-site, with an aluminum mold and made out of gravel, granite, sand (from the site) and water. It took ten days for each block to fully dry and cure before it could be used. Brilliantly proportioned rooms flow effortlessly from one to another.

The swimming pool and basement-level billiard room were designed by Wright himself in 1940. He was contracted by then-owner John Nesbitt to renovate the property and add a few extra amenities. The house, which once belonged to media personality John Nesbitt, was owned by the Trust for Preservation of Cultural Heritage (later renamed the Ennis House Foundation) from 1980 until 2011. It was during these years that the Ennis House became a popular filming location, and one of Los Angeles’ most famous outposts. Apparently, that gutter rat translates into timeless works of art, as Ennis House is regarded as one of the most beautiful and unique architectural gems of all time.
Took Tory Taylor, the best punter in the draft, a little early in the fourth. Foster was selected Saturday, the final day of the draft held in his hometown of Detroit. He follows Darius Robinson, Ennis Rakestraw and Ty’Ron Hopper as Tigers taken in this year’s draft. A Midwestern boy at heart, he was raised in St. Louis and studied journalism at the University of Missouri.
The house has also been used as a location for commercials, fashion magazine shoots and music videos, including 3T's "Why" featuring Michael Jackson. S Club 7's video for the single "Have You Ever" shows the band members living an everyday life in the house and Ricky Martin music video song "Vuelve". It is here that we will stop at the Ennis House to admire its hilltop location and design.
Near the top of Vermont Avenue sits the Ennis House done by Frank Lloyd Wright in 1924, which dominates its surroundings as a modular masonry structure composed of square concrete bricks. Its inspiration is rather obvious, as Wright’s love for Mayan art and architecture connects this residence to the culture’s highly ornamented, symmetric and organized structures. Frank Lloyd Wright’s Ennis House is the largest and most grand of his textile block homes. In nonprofit ownership and operation for many years, the Trust for Preservation of Cultural Heritage was renamed as the Ennis House Foundation.
